Painting & Drawing
Janet Lynn Rooney, instructor
Ages 15 - Adult
Class Tuition $160, GAC members $145 - 8 weeks
Saturdays: 12:00 - 2:00 pm - January 16 - March 6
Mixed skill level class, for beginners and those continuing studies in charcoal, pastel, oil, acrylic, or watercolor.
Choose your own media. Work independently, from still life or photography.

Portraiture
David Penna, instructor
Ages 15 - Adult
Class Tuition: $160, GAC members $145 - 8 weeks
Sundays: 10:00 -12:30 pm - January 17 - March 7
Mondays: 6:30 - 9:00 pm -  January 18 - March 8
Medium and advanced level class. Learn what it takes to paint a portrait. Students will progress from understanding the basic forms of the human face in black and white charcoal drawings to painting a full-color portrait in oils or acrylics.

Painting Techniques

Thursdays: 6:30 - 9:00 pm - January 14 - March 4
Explore the basics or refine your skills! This course will address how to begin a painting using composition, color theory and effective painting techniques, through how to refine the details and complete a painting using your choice of oils or acrylics.

Figure Drawing

Mixed skill level class, for beginners & those continuing their studies.
You must pre-registered for this class.
Class Tuition: $200, GAC members $180 - 8 weeks
Saturdays: 9:00 - 11:00 am - January 16 - March 6
Draw or paint the figure. An exploration of the figure as subject matter. Learn how to render the figure through
observation of a live model. Emphasis will be on color, shading, and gaining an understanding of the nature of the
human form. Some nude, some costumed classes.

Drawing Fundamentals

This class is designed to teach beginning or intermediate students the fundamentals of drawing. Through classic lessons
and innovative exercises we will use various mediums and techniques to explore the basics of visual representation.

Quick Drawing/Organic Art

Mixed skill level class, beginners through advanced students. Getting to the essence of a subject, telling it’s story, expressing a mood or emotion through spontaneous quick line drawing. Class will use still life or people as subjects.

Drawing Caricatures

Wednesdays: 7:00 - 9:00 pm - January 20 - March 10
Caricature drawing is a fun skill that can also be profitable. Whether you are looking for a way to make a little extra cash,
or just impress your friends this class will explore both the fundamental skills of drawing faces live and quickly (no erasers needed!) as well as the subtle techniques that makes people laugh.
We will work from photo references as well as guests and each other. This class is purposely kept very small
for a more one-on-one style of teaching, so sign up quickly!

Woodcut Printmaking

Tuition $200, GAC members $180, 8 weeks
Wednesdays: 6:45 - 9:00 pm - January 20 - March 10
Black & white and full color woodcut printmaking. First the class will focus on the basics of the medium and printing,
students will make a black & white print. Then we will work on creating a three color print. Students can work from
previous drawings, photos, a still life set up, or from imagination. Supplies are included in the cost of the class,
but you are asked to bring a stainless steel spoon to the first class.

Rapid Visualization

Get your ideas out of your head and onto paper fast! Work on basic drawing skills of shading, perspective, color,
and figure proportions while building concept development skills of brain-storming, idea extension and thumbnailing.
Great for beginners or just to brush up.

Mixed Media Studio

Using a broad range of wet and dry media, students will experiment with surprising combinations that create a visual
tension and energy that a single medium cannot. Media choices may include: watercolor, gouache, ink, graphite,
charcoal, crayon, water-soluble crayon, colored pencils, collage and resists. All levels of skills welcomed.

Collage!! Non-Traditional Mixed Media

Explore non-traditional materials - such as cardboard, asphalt paper, plastic, foil and mesh - to create collages and 2-D and 3-D projects. Students will learn about properties and textures of unusual materials and create unique mixed media projects.

Knitters Workshop

A class for the whole family, young & old.
Class Tuition: $120, GAC members $108 - 6 weeks
Saturdays 10:00 am - 12:00 noon - January 16 - February 20
Tuesdays: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm - January 19 - February 23
Beginning and Intermediate level class for all ages. Beginning knitters will learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase,
decrease, and bind off. Intermediate knitters will work at their own pace on patterns of their choice with the guidance
of the instructor.

Private Study/ Special Classes
Private study rate $40. per hour. You pick the area of study plus time and day - we’ll find the teacher. If you have a
group and an idea for a special class give us a call, 773-465-4652, we will try to arrange it. Group classes are priced at
regular class rates. Available for adults and children.

Multimedia Art

A trip around the world to study the work of famous artists while exploring the elements of art. Students will work with
line, color, shapes and texture in a variety of materials.
Great Artists and You (story & art time for ages 6-9)

A series of inspirational stories celebrating some of the worlds greatest artists and the real children who knew them. Students will hear the touching stories of the lives and work of famous painters, then create a piece of art in the style of the artist.
Cartooning

Ages 9-15 years
Tuition $120 - 6 weeks   Class size limited
Tuesdays: 6:00 - 8:00 pm - January 19 - February 23
This class will teach the fundamental aspects of cartooning, such as character design, the language of cartooning, and
the simple shapes that go on to be the next “Sponge-Bob Square-pants”. We will build on our drawing skills and increase
our understanding of simple shapes that evolve into complex dimensional characters.

Mapmaking (Mixed Media)

Ages 10 - 15
Tuition $120, 6 weeks
Wednesdays: 4:30 - 6:30 pm - January 20 - February 24
Use your imagination to create a visual journey of someplace that you’ve traveled to or want to go, or the route from your home to school or to see a friend. Maps can contain images, words or objects - whatever tells your story. Students will be shown how to make a wall/folded map, a map book and a 3-D map using mixed media.

Found Objects

Ages 10 - 15
Tuition $120, 6 weeks
Thursdays:  4:30 - 6:30 pm - January 14 - February 18
Create diverse and imaginative projects, from books & drawings to sculptures, using found objects. Found objects can be unusual or ordinary items (toy parts, paper scrap, bottle caps/ring, lost glove or coins found on the sidewalk, a shell or piece of wire. Materials, techniques, shape, color and form will be addressed.

Teen Painting & Drawing

Ages 9 - 13 years
Tuition $120,  6 weeks Ages 9 - 13 years
Sundays: 11:00 - 1:00 am - January 17 - February 21
Explore different techniques of painting and drawing. Students will build a familiarity with materials and techniques. This class is an introduction to line, value, color and composition focusing on fundamentals with an emphasis on developing observational skills.
Students are responsible for their own supplies for this class, a materials list will be furnished at registration.
Adult classes are open to ages 15 and over.

Class Registration is accepted on a first come, first served basis, payment is due at registration. You must pre-register to ensure space in a class or workshop. Checks should be made to The Greenleaf Art Center. Refunds will be given less a processing fee of $10, you must withdraw from a class prior to the start date. If you know before registration, that you will miss a class session you can deduct the cost of the class from the total tuition.  (After registration no cash refunds for missed classes is given, a makeup class can be arranged only within the same semester.)
The Greenleaf Art Center reserves the right to cancel a class or workshop if a minimum of enrollment is not met.  List of supplies needed for each class will be available at registration and on line at http://www.GreenleafArtCenter.com.  Family Discount - Pay full price for one and get 10% off tuition for all other members of the same family.
