The Modern Cup Show @ The Common Cup
Beginning on July 7th, mental illness patients living at the Clayton
Residential Home in Chicago will be displaying and selling their artwork at
the Common Cup coffeehouse in Rogers Park for the month. The show, entitled
The Modern Cup Show: An Art Collaboration will display the paintings and
media collages created by artists who receive treatments at the Clayton
Residential Center. The artists were given a “common” coffee cup and allowed
the freedom to expand with their own themes. The center works to benefit
individuals living there with disabilities, or at risk for disabilities, by
allowing them to live, work, and play in the community. Their collaboration
with the Common Cup gave patients the ability to use their art creations as
an outlet for personal expression and an alternative to traditional
treatments. The artwork will be available for purchase during the entire
month of July, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the artists who reside
at the Clayton Residential Home.
