Posted on April 19, 2011

Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society holds its 25th annual House Tour featuring Morse Avenue and the Glenwood Arts District

The Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society proudly announces its 25th annual house tour, to be held on Sunday May 1 from noon until 5:00 PM.  This year’s tour features historically significant houses, a church and a former synagogue, among other spots of historical value surrounding Morse Avenue and Glenwood Arts District.  The significance of the development of the areas around Morse Avenue will be illustrated at the sites on the tour, from the historic homes dating back to Rogers Park’s early settlement to the historical murals depicting the area’s development, early settlers, and community leaders.  Fascinating information about the founders and developers with familiar names like Philip Rogers, Patrick Touhy, Charles Morse and George Pratt are an integral part of this year’s historical stroll.

The Walk begins at the RPWRSH headquarters at 1447 West Morse.  Tickets are $25 for Society members and $35 for non-members.  Parking is free at the lot on Morse and Ashland.  More information about the Walk and the Society can be found at http://www.rpwrhs.org.

The Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society collects, preserves and shares the story of the diverse community of Chicago’s far north side. Established in 1975 by local residents who believed their part of Chicago was a place with much to celebrate, the Society today serves the community through its publications, architectural tours, and various educational and outreach efforts. More information, including online membership registration and sales of the Society’s award-winning books, is available at http://rpwrhs.org.
