Rogers Park BizArts is providing a great opportunity to meet some of the staff of the Willye B. White Park, tour the facility, and learn about a youth created and youth lead urban dance program that is inspiring many teenagers and young adults in the neighborhood.

The Willye B. White Center, opened in 2008 and is named after the five time Olympian, Willye B. White. Among the Center’s more recent successes is completion of a youth football program, which just ended its first season with a winning record. Anyone driving along Howard Street in recent months have probably seen the football program in action.

This past summer, Willye B. White Park, with the assistance of Family Matters, made its facilities available to a group of young (age 19 -22) neighborhood youth who wanted to start a dance program for local kids. 808s: Youth Empowerment thru Dance, the name of the new dance group, put on its inaugural performance on August 25th (after only one month’s worth of practices) at the park, in front of a filled to capacity gymnasium, and, according to one of the performers, “we put on the performance of our lives.”

Meet a few of the 808s founders and learn about 808s “Holiday” performance later this month, at the Willye White FIeld House.

The BizArts meeting also provides its participants an opportunity to network with artists, business owners and other community members. Please feel free to bring a guest.
