JOIN THE ROGERS PARK/WEST RIDGE HISTORICAL SOCIETY IN CELEBRATING OUR MOVE TO NEW MUSEUM AND OFFICES
The Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society has moved to our new museum and offices at 1447 West Morse and would like you invite you to our Grand Opening on Sunday, December 12. A ribbon cutting will take place at 12:00. We’ll be there to greet you and show off our new digs until at least 6:00 p.m. that day. Refreshments will be served
Highlights of the new space include:
• A photo wall of nearly life-size images of our neighborhood’s past, including a 1931 streetcar, theater marquee, 1895 Clark St. storefronts, and other historic scenes.
• A timeline of events in our local history from the receding Wisconsin glacier to the founding of our HS.
• An internally-lit “counter” where visitors can sit and see an overview of scenes from the long history of businesses in RP/WR. A moving message sign embedded in the street side of this “counter” scrolls little-known facts about our history and upcoming HS events.
• An interactive computer station where visitors will be able to search for images and information from the HS’s archives, learn about upcoming events, and research buildings featured on previous HS House Tours.
• A selection of books about Rogers Park, West Ridge, and Chicago history will be for sale, along with t-shirts, tote bags, coffee cups and other items, all imprinted with historic images from the neighborhoods’ past.
We hope that our new visible location and these dynamic exhibits will reach new audiences in our neighborhood. We are also happy that our presence on Morse Avenue will be another step in the continuing rebirth of this great and historic Rogers Park street.
So please join us Sunday, December 12, from 12 to 6! No RSVP is required. The Society is located on the southwest corner of Greenview and Morse Avenues one block west of the “L” and a few blocks east of Clark St.
