Rogers Park Shoppers Offered Cash Back for Shopping Local This Holiday Season
Rogers Park Business Alliance is offering rebates to holiday shoppers for spending their money in the neighborhood. Shoppers who spend at least $100 at participating neighborhood merchants will receive $25 cash back and shoppers who spend at least $150 will receive $50.
Chicago, Illinois - November 19, 2010 - Rogers Park Business Alliance is offering shoppers cash back this holiday season when they patronize local businesses, with the hope of encouraging residents to stay in the neighborhood to do their holiday shopping. When customers collect $100 or more in receipts from three or more merchants participating in the promotion, they’ll receive $25 back and if they collect $150 or more in receipts from three or more participating businesses, they’ll receive $50 back. The promotion runs from now until December 31, 2010.
The Rogers Park neighborhood offers a variety of gift options, many with an ethnic flavor. For instance, shoppers could create their own holiday gift basket of world and local specialties with Intelligentsia coffee from the Common Cup (1501 W. Morse Ave.), Great Lakes Honey from Morse Fresh Market (1430 W. Morse Ave.), round bread from the Caribbean American Bakery (1539 W. Howard St.), and salami from the Romanian Kosher Sausage Company (7200 N. Clark St.).
Those looking for libations will find them at Rogers Park Fine Wine & Spirits (6729 N. Clark St.), which features a selection of hard-to-find beers, liquors and wines including Chicago-made Koval chrysanthemum liqueur and The Kraken brand rum.
The Heartland General Store (7000 N. Glenwood Ave.), adjacent to the Heartland Café, offers stocking stuffers like handmade earrings, organic tea, soy candles, vintage postcards and tin toys as well as larger gifts such as embroidered handbags, books of Chicago lore and CTA map shower curtains.
Pet lovers will find treats and toys for cats and dogs of all sizes at Bark Place (1775 W. Greenleaf Ave).
Experience-based gift options include Main Stage or KidSeries subscriptions to the Lifeline Theatre (6912 N. Glenwood Ave.) and gift certificates from the Rogers Park Center for Massage Therapy (6934 N. Glenwood Ave.).

According to Jim McHale of First Commercial Bank (6945 N. Clark St.) and a Local First Chicago board member, if every Chicagoan transferred $100 of their holiday spending this year from chain stores to local retailers, it would put over $25 million into our local economy.
“Not only do you get to feel good that you’re supporting local businesses,” says Pon Angara of Barkada Creative (6549 N. Ashland Ave.) and a Local First Chicago board
member, “shopping local often means you’re getting more personalized service and unique products as well.”
