RE:INDIAN BOUNDARY PARK VOLUNTEERS DOCENT PROGRAM

Dear Friend and Neighbor,

The Indian Boundary Park Advisory Council and the Chicago Park District have started a new program for our Little “Jewel” Park. Indian Boundary has a historic landmark fieldhouse, a lagoon surrounded by wildflowers, a small zoo, perennial gardens for birds & butterflies (Triangle Garden) and soon the rejuvenated large garden near the tennis courts.

I’m the Chair for the IBPAC Docents Program and want to tell you about this new program. Docents foster a greater appreciation and understanding of the sites by greeting visitors and providing interpretive tours of this little park.

Here’s the info:

Training is on Tuesday, beginning April 22, 2008 at Indian Boundary Park thru May 27 for 6 weeks (April 29, May 6, 13, 20, & 27). It will be for 2 hours at 6:30 pm and will receive training from experts on the art of interpretation of the history of Indian Boundary Park, Architecture, Horticulture, Landscape, and Zoology.

Docents are expected to make a minimum commitment of 3 hours per month (1 shift).

To help you determine whether this volunteer opportunity is for you, we strongly suggest that you take a tour with one of our existing docents. Please let us know and we will arrange a docent tour.

We ask that you attend each training session. While we will greatly appreciate your commitment to attending every session, however, we do allow one (1) absence. We will ask you to try to arrange for a make-up session.

Be advised that as a formality, all volunteer applicants are required to fulfill a background check prior to beginning of service. Fingerprinting will take place before the first day of training at your convenience.

Docents will be asked to purchase an apron or T-shirt for approximately $15.00.

After we receive your application, you will be contacted for a brief telephone interview. We also encourage you to have an on-site interview with our Docent Coordinator. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Phil Martini at 773.764.0338 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Thank you for your interest and support in this exciting new program in our neighborhood. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Albom
