Have You Seen the Proposed Ward Improvement Projects?

Posted on March 25, 2011

Dear Neighbor,

Your neighbors have been hard at work the last five months devising a list of proposed projects for my 2011 ward infrastructure budget.  It’s part of my PARTICIPATORY BUDGETING INITIATIVE in which I ask the residents of my ward decide directly how I should spend the Ward’s $1.3 million “menu money”—discretionary funds received annually by each Chicago alderman for infrastructure improvements in their wards.

For a comprehensive list of the projects under consideration, CLICK HERE.

The Participatory Budgeting Leadership Committee and I will be hosting two Neighborhood Assemblies at which you can learn more about the proposed projects and provide your thoughts and ideas:

Tuesday, March 29th, 7:00 p.m., United Church of Rogers Park, 1545 W. Morse (at Ashland) 3rd Floor.  Parking available at the southwest corner of Morse and Ashland.

Thursday, March 31st, 7:00 p.m., Pottawattomie Park Fieldhouse, 7340 N. Rogers.
In addition, a Spanish language Neighborhood Assembly will be held on Wednesday,  April 6th, 7:00 p.m., at the St. Jerome Church Parish Center, 1706 W. Lunt.

You’ll hear directly from six different neighborhood committees about the projects they’re proposing for inclusion on the ballot.  Each committee will give a short presentation on its project proposals, and you will be invited to offer your feedback and suggestions.  Based on that input, the committees will revise their proposals, with the final proposals being put to a vote of the entire 49th Ward community at an election on Saturday, May 7th.

Please attend one of the Neighborhood Assemblies and have your voice heard!

Sincerely,

Joe Moore

P.S.  The 49th Ward’s Participatory Budgeting Initiative is the only project of its kind in the United States.  Help support this groundbreaking experiment in true democracy at a special fundraising benefit on Friday, April 8th, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Mayne Stage, 1328 W. Morse.
