Mixed skill level class, for beginners and those continuing studies in charcoal, pastel, oil, acrylic, or watercolor.
Choose your own media. Work independently, from still life or photography.

Portraiture

Medium and advanced level class. Learn what it takes to paint a portrait. Students will progress from understanding the basic forms of the human face in black & white charcoal drawings to painting a full -color portrait in oils or acrylic.
Painting Techniques

Explore the basics or refine your skills! This course will address how to begin a painting using composition, color theory and effective painting techniques, through how to refine the details and complete a painting using your choice of oils or acrylics.

Large Canvas Abstract Acrylic Painting

Open up your creative flow In this series of classes we will go over basic color theory. Working with texture we will use different types of mediums such as molding paste, fabric, paper and experiment with various tools. Come and have lots of fun and let your creativity flow.

Figure Drawing

Draw or paint the figure. An exploration of the figure as subject matter. Learn how to render the figure through
observation of a live model. Emphasis will be on color, shading, and gaining an understanding of the nature of the
human form. Some nude, some costumed classes.

Drawing Fundamentals

Mixed skill level class, beginners through advanced students. Getting to the essence of a subject, telling it’s story, expressing a mood or emotion through spontaneous quick line drawing. Class will use still life or people as subjects. Materials needed are a 11” x 14” sketchbook, pencil and pen.

Drawing Caricatures

Caricature drawing is a fun skill that can also be profitable. Whether you are looking for a way to make a little extra cash,
or just impress your friends.  This class will explore both the fundamental skills of drawing faces live and quickly (no erasers needed!) as well as the subtle techniques that makes people laugh.  We will work from photo references as well as guests and each other. This class is purposely kept very small for a more one-on-one style of teaching, so sign up quickly!

Rapid Visualization

Get your ideas out of your head and onto paper fast! Work on basic drawing skills of shading, perspective, color,
and figure proportions while building concept development skills of brain-storming, idea extension and thumbnailing.
Great for beginners or just to brush up.

Woodcut Printmaking

Wednesdays: 6:30 - 9:00 pm · October 20 - December 8
Learn the basic tools and techniques of this surprisingly versatile graphic medium by first creating a black and white print. Then, move on to creating a multiple color print using two or three registered blocks. Block cutting and printing tools are supplied. All levels welcome.

Mixed Media Studio

Using a broad range of wet and dry media, students will experiment with surprising combinations that create a visual
tension and energy that a single medium cannot. Media choices may include: watercolor, gouache, ink, graphite,
charcoal, crayon, water-soluble crayon, colored pencils, collage and resists. All levels of skills welcomed.

Create surprising 2D/3D projects while discovering your potential of transforming everyday materials into unique works of art. A new material will be introduced each week, and examples and demos will be shown in class. Collage and Assemblage

Create unique mixed media collages, drawings, or small sculptures with regular and non-traditional materials-such as found objects and images, paper or fabric scraps, plastic, wire and text. Students will find inspiration from their own experiences, the diversity of materials, and examples shown in class. Composition, color and technique will be addressed.

Knitters Workshop

A class for the whole family, young & old.
Class Tuition: $120, GAC members $108 - 6 weeks
Wednesdays: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm ·  October 20 - December 1
Beginning and Intermediate level class for all ages. Beginning knitters will learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase,
decrease, and bind off. Intermediate knitters will work at their own pace on patterns of their choice with the guidance
of the instructor.

Project Knitting
Choose one project to create
· Baby Surprise Jacket A classic baby cardigan knit in one piece with 2 seams. Elizabeth Zimmermann designed this item to fit baby for several months. Finished size is about 12mo.
· Felted Slippers and/or bag The pattern for women’s slippers makes a great gift. If you are a fast knitter you will finish a pair in no time. You can make another or you can work on a felted bag.

You will see the magic transformation as your knitting turns into felt! This class is for beyond-beginning knitters who are comfortable knitting and purling. Sarah will guide you through increasing, decreasing, picking up stitches, and seaming if you aren’t completely comfortable with those tasks.

Photoshop

If you’ve always been interested in Adobe Photoshop or just want to try something new, this course is for you. From editing family photos to creating spectacular collages, you’ll learn it all.

Digital Photography

Wednesdays: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm ·  October 20 - December 15
We will cover the elements of basic photography: aperature, sutter speed, white balance/ISO, depth of field, focal length, basics of composition and methods of priting digital images (digital inkjet, lambda). Students must have their own digital SLR camera (manual focusing - not point-and-shoot pocket sized camera) and laptop computer.

Private Study/ Special Classes
Private study rate $40. per hour. You pick the area of study plus time and day - we’ll find the teacher. If you have a

Multimedia Art

Manga & American Comics Art Studio

Hey kids lookout! It’s the Manga & American Comics Art Studio. Explore the popular Japanese Manga and American style comics’ characters. Learn to draw the heroic figure and anime’ style characters in action. Over the course of eight weeks you’ll develop drawing skills that will amaze even you. A portion of each 90 min. session will be devoted to sharing news and current events in the fantastic world of comics’ art. Please bring two #2 pencils, an eraser, and one ring-bound sketchbook, and two of you’re favorite comics to the first session.

How to make a Comic Book

You can draw comic books! Here is the class that teaches you how! Start with one great story, add a few amazing characters. Find out how to draw dramatic layouts and plan action like a movie director. Learn the basic inking skills to complete your spectacular pencil art. Join this class and get an exciting eight week overview of what it takes to draw incredible comics. Bring two #2 pencils, eraser, and one ring-bound sketchbook, plus two of your favorite comics to the first 90 min. session.

Acting with a Pencil

Draw a scene from Little Red Riding Hood taking the Big Bad Wolf’s point of view. Imagine Goldie Lox in the house of Three Dinosaurs. Learn to draw unique pictures that are so full of energy that they appear to leap from the page. Create rough sketches and develop finished color drawings using the working methods practiced by top storyboard artists and cartoonists.  Bring a 9” x12” sketchbook, two #2 pencils, a kneadable eraser and your imagination to the first class.

Teen Painting & Drawing

Ages 9 - 14 years · Tuition $120,  6 weeks
Sundays: 11:00 - 1:00 am · October 17 - November 28
Explore different techniques of painting and drawing. Students will build a familiarity with materials and techniques. This class is an introduction to line, value, color and composition focusing on fundamentals with an emphasis on developing observational skills.

Students are responsible for their own supplies for this class, a materials list will be furnished at registration.
Adult painting and Drawing classes are open to ages 15 and over.

Class Registration is accepted on a first come, first served basis, payment is due at registration. You must pre-register to ensure space in a class or workshop. Checks should be made to The Greenleaf Art Center. Refunds will be given less a processing fee of $10, you must withdraw from a class prior to the start date. If you know before registration, that you will miss a class session you can deduct the cost of the class from the total tuition.  (After registration no cash refunds for missed classes is given, a makeup class can be arranged only within the same semester.)
The Greenleaf Art Center reserves the right to cancel a class or workshop if a minimum of enrollment is not met.  List of supplies needed for each class will be available at registration and on line at http://www.GreenleafArtCenter.com.
