Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin announced today he won’t run for Board President, but is seeking re-election to his 13th District seat representing the northern suburbs along the lakefront as well as Rogers and West Rogers Park in Chicago.

Suffredin, who lives in Evanston and has two grown children, has held the office since 2002.

In a prepared statement, Suffredin, 61, of Evanston, said he’ll stand on his record, including a current push to repeal a penny-on-the-dollar sales tax hike. Already a large pool of Democrats are weighing a run to unseat current president Todd Stroger, including Chicago Ald. Toni Preckwinkle (4th), U.S. Rep. Danny Davis (D-Ill.), Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, and Metropolitan Water Reclamation President Terrence O’Brien.
