BizArts 9th Year anniversary!!
Dear BizArts attendees and guests;
I would imagine that most Rogers Park Business and Artist Networking (RP BizArts) members know of our great neighborhood tavern called Duke’s, owned by music aficionado and dedicated community residents Neil Lifton and Mary Bao.
Not only does Duke’s offer a comfortable and intimate setting for an early evening or late night cocktail, but on weekend evenings there are few better venues throughout the City of Chicago for quality music (no cover charge, but feed the tip jar), in such a warm and personal setting.
And, if you are lucky, you are there at a time when Mary has laid out an assortment of her remarkable home made breads, cheese, brisket, or sometimes even her duck. (Only recently she has told me her secret ingredient that she uses for the duck. Sorry; I’m sworn to secrecy.)
As part of RP BizArts ninth year anniversary commemoration, Duke’s will be hosting our “After Hours” event this coming Wednesday, May 26th, from 5:30PM - 8:30PM.
To commemorate this event, Neil has arranged for a beer tasting:
“Duke’s Bar is proud to host the May 26th Bizarts Afterhours networking event. A representative of Louis Glunz distributors, one of Chicago’s oldest family run beer operations will be pouring samples of a half dozen craft beers from around the country, and overseas. The small breweries represented are Flying Dog; Barley Island; Shipyard; Coney Island from America, and Bavik from Bavaria, and Leffe from Belgium. Opinions will be solicited from attendees, and their input will help Duke’s decide on beers to add to our current fine choices. We will also provide some tasty cheese and charcuterie to accompany the beer. Thanks, Neil and Mary for Duke’s Bar.”

BizArts events are a collaborative effort, organized by the Rogers Park Business Alliance and http://www.rogerspark.com.
(From email earlier this month):
Nine years ago, several community members created Rogers Park Business and Artist Networking Group (RP BizArts) as a “grassroots” organization designed to gather business owners, artists and community members monthly (later, twice monthly), offering attendees a chance to talk about our favorite subjects: ourselves!
Our feeling was that our community can thrive if we get to know each other and start doing business with each other, keeping more of our money in the community, with an added goal of bringing attention to talented and even to some less than talented local artists. In other words, BizArts was - and still remains a forum where it is okay to talk about yourself and what you are doing. Our underlying premise: there is nothing wrong in promoting yourself and telling us what you do. Amazing how people want to know.
The same applies today - nine years later.
Throughout the past nine years, many important relationships have developed as a result of BizArts: specifically, fourteen marriages, eight children, and only three divorces, with one pending.
OK; maybe that was overstated, but it is a fact that BizArts has brought about many new professional relationships, much business transacted (including massages), and many local restaurants, pubs and other venues have benefited from increased visibility. In addition, many artists have elicited more recognition and support. BizArts events have also helped community members promote and generate support for special events, and, finally, many new friendships have been established.
We will be seeking a $5.00 contribution, as these funds go towards supporting the event organizers: specifically, Eve Brownstone and the staff at Rogers Park Business Alliance, who devote considerable time and attention (more than you’d think!) into having these events succeed. Members and advertisers of RPBA and of rogerspark.com need not reach as deep into their pockets, though, that, too, would be appreciated.
We also urge all attendees to bring along a canned good. On Wednesday, we will deliver all of the canned good collected since January, 2010 to the Good News Community Kitchen. We intend to continue to request attendees to bring a canned good throughout the year.
The commemoration of our ninth year continues on Wednesday night, May 26th, with our “After Hours” BizArts just down the street at legendary Duke’s Bar, owned by Neil Lifton and Mary Bao. Neil is proud to be presenting a beer tasting from 5:30 until supplies last, which we hope will be until 7:30PM.
