Classes for Adults.
Painting & Drawing
Janet Lynn Rooney, instructor
Class Tuition $160, GAC members $145 - 8 weeks
Saturdays: 12:00 - 2:00 pm - Oct 17 - Dec 19 (No class 10-24, 12-12)
Mixed skill level class, for beginners and those continuing studies in charcoal, pastel, oil, acrylic, or watercolor.
Choose your own media. Work independently, from still life or photography.

Grace Cole, instructor
Class Tuition: $220, GAC members $198 - 8 weeks
Sundays: 9:00 -12:00 noon - Oct 11 - Dec 6 (No class 11-29)
Wednesdays: 9:00 - 12:00 noon -  Oct 14 - Dec 2
Medium and advanced level class. Students will progress from black and white charcoal pencil drawing to painting in
full color. Bring a clear, uncomplicated, sharp black and white photo of a head,  5” x 7”, to begin.

General Painting

This class is for students wanting to stretch their talents. Oil, acrylic, watercolor & pencil medias, learn basic to
advanced techniques of painting.

Figure Drawing

Mixed skill level class, for beginners & those continuing their studies.
You must pre-registered for this class.
Class Tuition: $200, GAC members $180 - 8 weeks
Saturdays: 9:00 - 11:00 am - Oct 17 Dec 19 (No class 10-24, 12-12)
Draw or paint the figure. An exploration of the figure as subject matter. Learn how to render the figure through
observation of a live model. Emphasis will be on color, shading, and gaining an understanding of the nature of the
human form. Some nude, some costumed classes.

Drawing Fundamentals

Sundays: 10:00 am - 12 noon - Oct 11 - Dec 6 (No class 11-29)
This class is designed to teach beginning or intermediate students the fundamentals of drawing. Through classic lessons
and innovative exercises we will use various mediums and techniques to explore the basics of visual representation.

Painting Techniques

Thursdays: 7:00 - 9:00 pm - Oct 15 - Dec 10 (No class 11-26)
Explore the basics or refine your skills! For students of all levels of experience, this course is an introduction to the
art of painting, using your choice of acrylics, oils, or watercolor. Course topics will include composition, color theory,
still life, landscapes, human form, and effective use of paint and painting techniques.

Drawing Caricatures

Wednesdays: 7:00 - 9:00 pm - Oct 14 - Dec 2
Caricature drawing is a fun skill that can also be profitable. Whether you are looking for a way to make a little extra cash,
or just impress your friends this class will explore both the fundamental skills of drawing faces live and quickly (no erasers needed!) as well as the subtle techniques that makes people laugh.
We will work from photo references as well as guests and each other. This class is purposely kept very small
for a more one-on-one style of teaching, so sign up quickly!

Woodcut Printmaking

Wednesdays: 7:00 - 9:00 pm - Oct 14 - Nov 18
Black & white and full color woodcut printmaking. First the class will focus on the basics of the medium and printing,
students will make a black & white print. Then we will work on creating a three color print. Students can work from
previous drawings, photos, a still life set up, or from imagination. Supplies are included in the cost of the workshop,
but you are asked to bring a stainless steel spoon to the first class.

Rapid Visualization

Mondays: 7:00 - 9:00 pm - Oct 12 - Nov 30
Get your ideas out of your head and onto paper fast! Work on basic drawing skills of shading, perspective, color,
and figure proportions while building concept development skills of brain-storming, idea extension and thumbnailing.
Great for beginners or just to brush up.

Mixed Media Studio

Fridays: 9:00 - 11:00 am - Oct 16 - Dec 11 (No class 11-27)
Using a broad range of wet and dry media, students will experiment with surprising combinations that create a visual
tension and energy that a single medium cannot. Media choices may include: watercolor, gouache, ink, graphite,
charcoal, crayon, water-soluble crayon, colored pencils, collage and resists. All levels of skills welcomed.

Alison Rose, instructor
Class Tuition: $120, GAC members $108 - 6 weeks
Saturdays: 10:00 - 12:00 am - Oct 17 - Nov 28 (No class 10-24)
Vintage Embroidered Dishtowels - No sewing experience necessary! Dry your dishes with hand-embroidered
dishtowels reproduced from vintage embroidery transfer designs. They also make fabulous gifts! In this class, we will
hot-iron transfer designs to flour sack dishtowels. Then we will learn special tricks on how to thread a needle,
how to easily separate embroidery thread, and how to quickly tie a knot. We will also learn basic embroidery stitches
including the french knot, the lazy daisy, and the chain stitch. Students must bring their own set of embroidery needles,
one medium sized hoop, and an assortment of embroidery floss.

Family Knitting
Sarah B. Ellis, instructor
Class Tuition: $120, GAC members $108 - 6 weeks
Tuesdays: 7:00 - 9:00 pm - Oct 13 - Nov 17
Beginning and Intermediate level class for all ages. Beginning knitters will learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase,
decrease, and bind off. Intermediate knitters will work at their own pace on patterns of their choice with the guidance
of the instructor.

Private Study/ Special Classes
Private study rate $40. per hour. You pick the area of study plus time and day - we’ll find the teacher. If you have a
group and an idea for a special class give us a call, 773-465-4652, we will try to arrange it. Group classes are priced at
regular class rates. Available for adults and children.

Multimedia Art
Kathleen Paluch, instructor
Tuition $90.-  6 weeks - Ages 5-8 years
Tuesdays: 3:30 -4:30 pm - Oct 13 - Nov 17
Fridays: 4:30 - 5:30 pm-  Oct 16 - Dec 11 (No class 10-23, 10-30, 11-27)
A trip around the world to study the work of famous artists while exploring the elements of art. Students will work with
line, color, shapes and texture in a variety of materials.

Tuesdays: 6:00 - 8:00 pm - Oct 13 - Nov 17
This class will teach the fundamental aspects of cartooning, such as character design, the language of cartooning, and
the simple shapes that go on to be the next “Sponge-Bob Square-pants”. We will build on our drawing skills and increase
our understanding of simple shapes that evolve into complex dimensional characters.

Teen Painting & Drawing

Tuition $120,  6 weeks - Ages 9 - 15 years
Sundays: 10:00 - 12:00 am - Oct 11 - Nov 15
Mondays: 4:30- 6:30 pm -Oct 12 - Nov 16
Explore different techniques of painting and drawing. Students will build a familiarity with materials and techniques. This class is an introduction to line, value, color and composition focusing on fundamentals with an emphasis on developing observational skills.
Students are responsible for their own supplies for this class, a materials list will be furnished at registration.
Adult classes are open to ages 15 and over.

Class Registration is accepted on a first come, first served basis, payment is due at registration. You must pre-register to ensure space in a class or workshop. Checks should be made to The Greenleaf Art Center. Refunds will be given less a processing fee of $10, you must withdraw from a class prior to the start date. If you know before registration, that you will miss a class session you can deduct the cost of the class from the total tuition.  (After registration no cash refunds for missed classes is given, a makeup class can be arranged only within the same semester.)
The Greenleaf Art Center reserves the right to cancel a class or workshop if a minimum of enrollment is not met.  List of supplies needed for each class will be available at registration and on line at  Family Discount - Pay full price for one and get 10% off tuition for all other members of the same family.
