Loyola El station to be remodeled this summer:

McDonald’s and Harris Bank slated for demolition in plans for plaza: After nearly five years of planning, the renovation of the Loyola Red Line El station is scheduled to begin in late May, according to university officials. Construction will begin shortly after Loyola's commencement ceremonies. In a related project, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) announced possible future plans to make Loyola a Red/Purple Line transfer station. Read the Loyola Phoenix Story Here

Snow Parking Ban

There are two different parking bans that are in effect from Dec 1 - Apr 1. In some areas the parking bans are only in effect when snow is over two inches deep. Keep in mind there are streets in the city (map here) where parking overnight, from 3-7 a.m., is prohibited regardless of snow.

Rogers Park Riled Up over CTA Red Line Renovation Plan

While it’s intended to push the city’s Northern Red Line and Purple Line ahead into the 21st century, and build a sleeker, faster train system, some residents strongly oppose a specific part of the CTA plan: closing the Red Line stop before Howard.

CTA considers closing stops on north lines - Jarvis at risk?

The Chicago Transit Authority is considering several options for how to modernize its century-old Red and Purple Lines on Chicago’s North Side and in Evanston, and this week officials revealed that some of those options would involve closing stations. In their stead, new entrances would be added to nearby stations. “You would still have a station that would serve that area,” said CTA spokesman Sheila Gregory. “It would just be sort of reconfigured for modern times.” Gregory says fewer stations could also reduce travel times. Loyola Energy Survey

Is there a way to keep people from using excess fossil fuels on a daily basis in Rogers Park? The lack of public transit options for members of the community reduces their options for and accessibility to destinations close to their home. This project directly influences the community of Rogers Park in giving residents a chance to voice their opinion about the current transportation infrastructure available.

Transition Rogers Park Chicago held its first visioning session on June 20, 2009. The ideas generated through interactive, participatory exercises will seed working groups in the areas of community, food, reskilling, transportation and local commerce as "Rogers Parkers" work to build a community that is resilient to the challenges ahead, including climate change, peak oil and the economy. Sheridan Road Resurfacing Begins

The Alderman's office is reporting that work has begun on a complete resurfacing of Sheridan Road from the Evanston border south to Devon Avenue. The work will also include repairs to curbs and gutters and sewer and water mains where needed.
