Quinn Eyes Alderman Joe Moore for Cabinet Spot

Quinn Eyes Alderman Joe Moore for Cabinet Spot It seems like the new Chicago City Council was just sworn into office, but one of its members may be preparing to move on quite soon. City and state insiders are buzzing with talk that Alderman Joe Moore (49th), a reformer who represents the Rogers Park area, is on Gov. Pat Quinn's short list to head the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. The agency has an interim director, John Kim, but Mr. Quinn is known to be looking for a permanent candidate, and the selection of Mr. Moore would please environmental groups. The Greens weren't thrilled when Mr. Quinn recently named Downstate state Rep. Tom Holbrook to another big environmental job: chairman of the state's Pollution Control Board. Residents Witness Shooting at Positive Loitering Event Good morning everyone!! First - I want to thank everyone that came out for the PL last night - regardless if you came late, or came out because of the events that occured. Yes - there was some "action" last night. Approx. at 8:30 there was a shooting right in front of us. WE ARE ALL FINE!!!! A group of bangers came out of the bad building on Ashland and one of the bangers broke from the group walked out into the street and fired one shot south on Ashland. He then turned around and disappeared going east on Morse. At that time 2 of us got on the phone and notified 911. At that point the bangers scattered and one of them was spotted going North on Ashland. He was followed (by one of the PLer's) going east on Morse. NabeWise - Rogers Park

NabeWise - Rogers Park NabeWise lets you rate your neighborhood similar to how Yelp works. Help them fill in the blanks and offer your impressions. Here is part of what they/you say...Harmoniously diverse and the northernmost nabe in all of Chicago, Rogers Park is known as place where it’s easy (or at least easier) to find city real estate that fits your needs. Highlights here include abundant parks, dreamy Lake Michigan beaches (about a 10 minute walk away from anywhere in the nabe), and regal Loyola University. Commercial venues here consist mostly of mom and pop shops and restaurants and a few student dive bars. Ditch your car here (parking’s a problem) and ride downtown on the red line—you’re guaranteed a seat, as Rogers Park is one of its early stops. Urging for suburbia? Take the red line the other way to Evanston just to the north. Get it all right here...

Daniel R. Gomez, Classical Guitarist

Daniel R. Gomez, Classical Guitarist By Elissa JonesRogers Park has long been home to many diverse artists, one of whom is Daniel R. Gomez, 32. He is a guitarist specializing in classical and South American folk music. Slender and unassuming, with a slight accent from his native of Lima [Peru], Gomez explained that he had emigrated alone to Chicago in 2006, to join relatives living here. Often, musicians begin their craft at a young age. Not so with Gomez; he did not begin playing guitar until age 26. However, he made up for lost time, motivated by a search for passion in his life. Initially, he was self-taught.
