Glenwood Sunday Market - This Weekend!

Glenwood Sunday Market - This Weekend! The last Winter Market of the season gave us a taste of what is to come this summer! Freshly picked asparagus from Hardin Family Farms in Michigan, watercress from Oriana's Orchard, eggs from the best fed chickens in Illinois from Midnight Sun (Nick says he is going to start feeding the chickens flax seed), and amazing mushrooms from River Valley. And that is just a sampling of what was available. For vegatable gardeners, there were beautiful starter heirloom tomato and herb plants, fertile compost and more. And let's not forget about the TREATs from Katherine Anne Confections and amazing baked goods from Bennisons Bakery among others.

Rogers Park Business and Artist Network Ten Year Anniversary Wed, May 11th

Rogers Park Business and Artist Network Ten Year Anniversary Wed, May 11th Think back to May, 2001. The nation had a new President who many feel stole the election. The federal government was enjoying a surplus. A facebook was something we might show to our children while putting them to bed. The price of gas was (inflation adjusted) $1.61. Osama Bin Laden? Few people knew who he was, but he was alive. Ten years later - how much has changed! One morning back in May, 2001 a group of local business people and artists* thought that Rogers Park needed a networking organization uniquely suited to this neighborhood. They spoke with Heartland Cafe owner Michael James who agreed to host the meeting and serve breakfast. Around 15 - 20 locals showed up with the goal being to get to know each other, what each other does professionally, and to learn about other community endeavors others were involved in. People exchanged business cards. New friendships and business relationships were established. Read Mike's full article here>>>

I Am Chicago - Rogers Park/Edgewater edition.

I Am Chicago - Rogers Park/Edgewater edition. We set up a portable, natural-light studio on Chicago’s neighborhood corners. We spend a day there documenting the characters of the city by inviting all who pass by to step into our studio. We take full-body portraits of them to record the exact way they have presented themselves to the streets on that given day, brown paper bags and all. Some strut, some smile, some grill, some glare, some frown... To encourage participation we offer everybody a professional 8x11.5 inch print of their studio portrait, made on the spot. Our goal is to set up our studio on 30 of Chicago’s corners. The purpose of ‘I am Chicago’ is to collect material for an exhibit, a book of photographs, and a film. Go to "I Am Chicago" Website>>
