Do Not Stand Idly By—Make a Call to Stop Gun Violence

The City Council recently enacted laws to expand reporting requirements for firearms, increase penalties for failure to report as required, and increase penalties for other types of firearms-related violations, such as possession of an unregistered gun. Unfortunately, laws passed on the local level have only so much effect. Now it is time to get some of those laws passed on a federal level. The U.S. Senate will consider two key bills very soon. Call our Senators, who are co-sponsors of the bill, to tell them you support their efforts.

In a paid advertisement placed in the local News Star newspaper, Royal Coffee owner David Bekele offers his thanks to the Rogers Park community for being so supportive of his business, now entering its fifth year. Describing Royal Coffee as "an old time family-owned business," Bekele acknowledges that he has "come to know most of our customers on a first name basis, our children have literally grown up right here... All this happened right here in Rogers Park with the continuous support of this great community." Chicago Math and Science Academy welcomes nearly 30 teams in regional tournament
WHAT:
More than 25 schools from communities throughout Illinois will gather at one of Chicago’s premiere technology schools – Chicago Math and Science Academy – for Northern Illinois Tournament's "Ring It Up" First Tech Challenge championship competition. Hundreds of students will compete against each other in a variety of robotic skills contests. All robots are hand made by students. Chicago Math and Science Academy is the first urban school to host these competition which are a traditionally held in the suburban schools.

Sol Cafe - Welcome to the Neighborhood!
Earlier this year, Howard Street welcomed its newest business: the Sol Cafe, at 1615 West Howard.
As explained in this video, the Sol Cafe appears to be much more than simply another coffee shop.
In fact, given the great buzz that it is generating, the Sol Cafe appears to be contributing to a positive transformation of Howard Street.
