Rogers Park Welcomes First Avocado Store (Please scroll through the end and click for pizza offer)

Ever since he was a young boy, growing up in Nigeria, Augustine Emuwa enjoyed a daily treat: eating avocados. Now, years later, Mr. Emuwa is bringing his life’s joy to Rogers Park – by opening the first ever store dedicated exclusively to his favorite food. Located on the corner of Touhy and Clark, in a former law office serving mostly a Latino clientle, Mr. Emuwa’s store features a full array of items, all made from his favorite fruit. Fruit? Mr. Emuwa eagerly explains: “You might be inclined to call it a vegetable, thanks to its green hue and savory taste, but the avocado is technically a fruit, and even more specifically, a single-seeded berry.” Emuwa continues. “People don’t realize the variety of things one can do with avocados. Avocado chips. Avocado fries. Bacon, lettuce and avocado sandwiches. Come in for breakfast and try our delicious avocado omelets!” Pointing at his new pizza oven, Emuwa face brightens with his newest offerings: “And people are going to love our avocado pizzas! They’ll never want tomato based pizzas again!” In cooperation with Gale Math & Science Academy (1631 W. Jonquil), Emuwa is using the school’s renowned 3rd floor garden and green space as a research lab, with impressive results. At Gale’s green space, two of Emuwa’s sales clerks, Tonia Andreina and Shapree Mallory, both of whom are also biologists experienced in genetic modification, are changing the culinary world with their latest discovery: orange avocados. “We think orange avocados will help stimulate sales” says Ms. Andreina. “Many kids simply aren’t drawn to foods that are green.”
