Robyn’s Groom Room
Why does my dog shed?
I brush my dog all the time & he still gets matted.
My dog really stinks, no matter what I do.
My dog HATES GETTING GROOMED.
In 1967, I got the first dog I was responsible for: an Afghan Hound. I had no idea what I was doing, but a very nice person who was also an Afghan Hound owner took the time to show me how to properly care for my dog (something the breeder should have done). I’ve been paying it forward ever since.
I started apprenticing with area hobby breeders. I went to dog grooming school in 1971 and was taught well. However, I was lucky enough to get employment with a person showing dogs. She and her friends, also showing dogs, showed me how to get the end results I wanted with the least amount of energy.
The pet industry has changed since the last century. More people are entering. With the advent of the internet, anyone can open a ‘dog business’, whether they know anything about dog physiology or animal behavior—-or not. There is a lot of competition.
Still, the best groomers—-the ones that everyone agrees makes the dogs look & feel good——are the ones who compete in dog performance events and network with other dog groomers, trainers, hobby breeders, and performance enthusiasts. We share indigenous knowledge. We teach each other about the best tools, shampoos, and methods.
I am an independent contractor and work part time at area kennels. I started grooming at home (on Wayne just south of Morse) a few months ago to accommodate my city clients. I groom mostly terriers (soft-coated Wheatens, Airedales, Min. Schnauzers, West Highland White Terriers, etc) & long haired, drape-coated dogs (Afghans Hounds, Bearded Collies, Maltese, Shih Tzu, even corded dogs) but groom a lot of dogs in ‘puppy’ trims.
I can help you with ‘deshedding’ and choosing the best tools you can use at home to brush your dog once a week..so you can go longer between professional groomings. I charge $8 for a nail trim only, & my clients get them for $5 between groomings.
I also provide first grooming FREE (dogs under 60 pounds) for dogs adopted from bona fide shelters & rescues after spay/neuter. I’ll start you off on the right foot.
You can stay with your dog if you’d like (although I have to warn you, your dog may not behave as well as if it’s just him & me—-that’s the dynamics of a relationship a dog has with the groomer).
Call me at 773-764-7003 and we’ll talk about your options.
