In July, 2011, four young adults, aged 19 - 22, from the North of Howard community in Rogers Park (Chicago's far north side) had an idea: to create an urban dance group directed towards area youth residing in and around the community.

One of the highlights experienced by two founders of the 808s was their opportunity to be interviewed, along with their advisor, Michael Glasser, on Cable Access Television, by Avi Meyers of North Town News Magazine. Here is a clip of their 9 minute interview, posted on 12/1/11.

On August 12, 2011, 808s advisor Michael Glasser conducted this impromptu interview with 808s Dance Company cofounder Jerrell Hawks. Jerrell shares his experiences from a particularly harrowing experience six years ago, and he explains how his knowledge of choreography and dance helped him through it, and bettered him. As an impromptu interview done with no planning, the video quality is not great, but the content – Jerrell’s honesty and expressiveness – is compelling and worth an investment of ten minutes to view.
